THE PIONEERING OF E-LEARNING IN MEDICAL PHYSICS

(The development of e-Books, Image Databases, Dictionary and Encyclopaedia)

S Tabakov, V Tabakova

The presentation of this new book will be on 30 September (18.30) in the Bulgarian Cultural Institute London (SOFIA GALLERY, 186-188 Queen’s Gate Gardens, South Kensington SW7 5HL).

The book describes a chronology of 7 international (European) projects in the period 1994-2014, initiated at the dawn of the Internet, which are among the first to develop and introduce original e-learning in the teaching process.

The in-depth and sometimes intriguing descriptions of the working methods of these complex projects have attracted more than 25,000 downloads since the e-book’s launch in May 2015. The pioneering methodologies created and applied by the project team for the development of e-learning materials, Multilingual Dictionary (in 29 languages) and an e-Encyclopaedia, can be applied in various fields of education.

The International projects described in the book bring together a team of about 400 leading specialists from 45 countries. The results from these pioneering projects for e-learning are now used worldwide. The success and the worldwide impact of the projects were pivotal to awarding the team the inaugural EU prize for education – the Leonardo da Vinci Award.

The authors of the book (S Tabakov and V Tabakova) have been working in the field of e-learning in medical physics at King’s College London for over 20 years. They have also supported the development of 15 medical physics university courses in various countries, including the first International Medical Physics Educational Centre (in Medical University Plovdiv, Bulgaria). Prof Slavik Tabakov, Coordinator of the described projects, has been elected in 2015 as President of the International Organization for Medical Physics – an Organization with more than 20,000 members in 82 countries.
