Biography:

Yanislav Yankov is the pseudonym of Yordan Yankov Yordanov, an internationally famous Bulgarian writer, who, in recognition of his works, was praised as The Writer of 2011 in his home country, just a few months ago. 2011 was also the year of his 70 anniversary, noted by celebrations in honour of his and the publishing of the poet’s Anthology of Poetry.

Yanislav Yankov was born in the small town of Debelets, near the old capital of Bulgaria – Veliko Turnovo. He was one of the very first graduates from the Veliko Turnovo University as a philologist in Bulgarian language. He worked as a journalist, playwright, repertory director, as editor of the almanac Zornitsa. His poems and short stories have been translated into German, English, French, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Georgian, Ossetian and other languages. He was awarded : Great Prize ‘Yuzhna Prolet’ (Southern Spring) for a debut book of poetry ( Haskovo,1973), ‘Vladimir Bashev’ Prize (1973), Penyo Penev Great Prize (1984), First Prize for marine poetry ( Varna, 1993), Award and Premium of the Belgian publishing house Worlds for a series of poems, published in the collectors’ Anthology of World Poetry ( Brussel, 1995), the annual prize for poetry of the Bulgarian Writers’ Union for his book ‘Sweeping into Rome’ (2008),and many others.
