The 60th anniversary of Bulgarian magazine for literature, art and culture “LIK” and the 90th anniversary of Bulgarian National Radio

Bulgarian Cultural Institute London is pleased to invite you to celebrate together the 60th anniversary of the Bulgarian magazine for literature, art and culture “LIK” and the 90th anniversary of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Where: Halls of the Bulgarian Embassy

With the special participation of the famous Bulgarian pianist Mario Angelov.

The event will include:

  • Screening of short videos for the anniversary edition of LIK magazine and the thematic edition of LIK magazine, which celebrated the 90th anniversary of the Bulgarian National Radio in February.
  • Video address by Assoc. Prof. Georgi Lozanov – Editor-in-Chief of LIK magazine.
  • A conversation-discussion between the General Director of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency Kiril Valchev and Yanitsa Hristova, editor-in-chief of the magazine. The topic of the conversation will be “LIK for LIK” and the issues regarding the history of the magazine and its contemporary thematic profile will be discussed. Among the highlights are already realized editions about emblematic Bulgarian artists such as the poets Konstantin Pavlov and Atanas Dalchev, the composer Pancho Vladigerov, the artist Dechko Uzunov.
  • Presentation of the exhibition “In the Footsteps of Sirak Skitnik 2024” and the photo exhibition “90 Years of the Bulgarian National Radio – The Radio of Generations of Bulgarians”. The two exhibitions will be presented by Milen Mitev, General Director of the Bulgarian National Radio and Plamen Dichkov, Commercial Director of the Bulgarian National Radio. The exhibitions are part of the events that in 2025 the Bulgarian National Radio celebrates its 90th anniversary with.

After the official presentation, you will be able to enjoy a glass of Bulgarian wine.

Mario Angelov is among the distinguished and valuable Bulgarian pianists, a graduate of the Bulgarian piano school. He graduated from the “Lyubomir Pipkov” State Music Academy in the class of Lyudmila Chenkova. He continued his education at the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” State Music Academy with Prof. Mara Petkova and Prof. Nikolay Evrov. He is the winner of numerous awards and laureate titles from Bulgarian and international competitions and competitions, including Senigallia, Italy (1984), “Albert Roussel”, Sofia (1991) and “Svetoslav Obretenov”, Provadia (1994), where he won First Prize, a laureate title and the Special Prize of the French Academy of Arts. He was a soloist in concerts and recordings of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the “Sofia Soloists” chamber ensemble and most ensembles and music festivals in Bulgaria. He has performed in Japan, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Spain and Malta.

His active professional career is mainly connected with the Bulgarian National Radio. After winning a competition in 1991, he was a pianist in the BNR Symphony Orchestra until 2017. From 2017 to 2021, he was a music producer for “Symphonic Music” at the “BNR Music House”. He has made a respectable number of studio recordings of solo and chamber works in a wide range – from pre-classical to contemporary, in various styles, forms and genres. In the BNR recording fund, Mario Angelov’s name stands behind landmark premieres of Bulgarian and foreign composers, many of which have reference studio recordings in the national sound library. His studio production of piano music amounts to thousands of minutes.
Since 2023, he has been the director of the “Music Production and Ensembles” directorate at the BNR.
