The event will feature a presentation of the latest books by Professor Christo Pimpirev, Bulgarian scientist, polar explorer and Head of Bulgaria’s Antarctic Expedition, and Iglika Trifonova, writer, photographer and journalist.
The evening will be held in conversation with Kiril Valchev, General Director of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
With the special participation of the world-famous Bulgarian musician, virtuoso kaval performer and composer Theodosii Spassov.
About the Authors
Professor Christo Pimpirev is a Professor of Geology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, scientist and polar explorer. He is Chairman of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute and Director of the National Centre for Polar Studies. He has led 33 Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions and is the author of 13 books, 10 documentary films, one feature film and over 250 scientific publications.
Professor Pimpirev has been included in a global ranking of the 100 most prominent polar explorers on Earth. Mount Pimpirev on Alexander Island, Pimpirev Glacier and Pimpirev Coast on Livingston Island in Antarctica, as well as a newly discovered species of microscopic algae (Muelleria pimpireviana), bear his name.
Iglika Trifonova has participated in six Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions. As a photographer and journalist, she has published in Bulgarian and international media. She is a long-standing Chair of the Association of Young Polar Explorers (APEX Bulgaria), a member of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists and of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.
In 2022 she was included in a global ranking of 100 women in polar science and education who inspire future generations of polar researchers. In 2023, Cape Trifonova on Livingston Island was named in her honour for her contribution to promoting Antarctica.
This event forms part of the official programme of the Bulgarian Stand at London Book Fair 2026, celebrating Bulgarian scientific achievement and cultural presence on the international stage.
