The Bulgarian Cultural Institute London is pleased to invite you to the exhibition of Maya Docheva. Welcome from 18:00 to the opening of the exhibition, live at Sofia Gallery.

Maya Docheva is an artist with a rich creative biography.

“Her painting is pleasant, without being beautiful, without being sweet, real, without being similar. Her painting comes to remind us of some simple and eternal truths with which modern civilization, enclosed in the reinforced concrete ghettos of “urban comfort”, has diverged, “the famous artist Svetlin Rusev wrote about her.

With her style, the artist Maya Dochevae attracted the attention of collectors from all over the world and her paintings traveled to Japan, Kuwait, Germany, Spain, USA, England, Austria, Israel and others. Nature gives her the strongest creative stimulus.

Maya Docheva does not stop painting her idyllic landscapes even far from her homeland. In 2019, she embarked on a trip to England, where one of her daughters lives with her family. On the Island, she finds that nature, as well as people, create a comfortable environment for her creativity. Thus, the plans for a short stay changed and now the artist is torn between the hospitality of the British and the comfort of her own home in Bulgaria. She still does not know what will prevail, but she certainly knows what we Bulgarians can borrow from the British:

“I am in love with nature. I thought I liked only Bulgaria, but when I went to England I saw that there are many beautiful panoramic views and it turned out that I like the grass, the trees, the water, and the snow and the rain, just everything. My connection to the earth itself is what gives me strength. ”

As an artist, Maya Docheva is completely focused on nature, but as a person, a parent and even a traveler, she is very excited about the relationships between people. The British have already won the sympathy of the Bulgarian:

“They are not cold people, they are very rational and a little conservative, they also care a lot about the beauty around them. Because I have always loved nature and I have always emphasized ecology, in England I was struck by the fact that they collect all the waste separately, and separately on the packaging itself is written what, how to recycle. Well, I can’t help but like this English attitude towards nature. It is very nice when someone, without knowing me, comes and greets me for the picture I am painting. We, the Bulgarians, have something to be proud of – we have great opera voices, exceptional artists, scientists in the field of physics, aircraft construction and other fields.
