Film Screening and Discussion: Actor Alek Aleksiev in Pavel Vesnakov’s Trilogy

Join us as we present the rising Bulgarian star, actor Alek Aleksiev, and the contemporary Bulgarian director, Pavel Vesnakov. Our two special guests will present three short movies by the director, in which Alek Aleksiev plays the lead role.

The Bulgarian Cultural Institute will be screening the short films, “The Paraffin Prince “2012”, “Pride” 2013 and “Zeus” 2015.

The night will continue with talks over wine with the actor and director about their various projects worldwide.

Pavel G. Vesnakov

Pavel Vesnakov is an award winning Bulgarian film director famous with his highly realistic and provocative ideas exploring the degradation of contemporary Bulgarian society. He is the scriptwriter, director and editor of the short film trilogy “ Inches of Suburbia”. The trilogy consists of three films – “Trains” 2011, “The Paraffin Prince “2012” and “Pride” 2013. All of them have been shown on numerous international film festivals such as “Locarno International Film Festival”,“Clermont – Ferrand International Film Festival”, “Sarajevo Film Festival”, “Asiana Film Festvail Korea”, “Molodist Film Festival Kiev”, “Leeds Short Film Festival”, “Sofia International Film Festival”, “Helsinki Film Festival” and many others. The three films have won more than 10 awards and continue to travel around the world.

Pavel was born in Sofia, Bulgaria on 9th of January 1987. He has a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts and a Masters Degree in Film Arts from New Bulgarian University.

He has worked as a matte-painting artist, photographer, editor and director in companies like World Wide Effects, Nu Boyana, Bulgarian National Television and Miramar Film.

Pavel is Berlinale Talent Campus and Sarajevo Talent Campus alumnae. The project for his latest short film “Pride” has been nominated for “Robert Bosch Co-Production Prize 2012”.

Currently, he is working on his first feature film.
